Nordic Nuclear Group secures SEK 35 million and accelerates the development of Swedish BWR technology
Nordic Nuclear Group (NNG), consisting of Nordic Baseload Power, Nordic Nuclear Holding and Nordic Nuclear Energy, is now taking the next major step in its development. In line with the strategic plan adopted in February 2026, the group is carrying out a comprehensive organisational change, and the business has received a total of SEK 35 million in Norwegian capital. The investment starts a new growth phase and strengthens the group's ambition to build a leading Nordic collaboration in the energy technology of the future.
Since the company was founded, its focus has been on developing and re-establishing Swedish expertise in BWR technology. With the new capital and a new organisation, the business is now moving from development into industrialisation and commercialisation.
As part of the restructuring, new boards are being appointed for Nordic Baseload Power, Nordic Nuclear Holding and Nordic Nuclear Energy. A new CEO of Nordic Nuclear Energy will also take office on 1 September 2026.
"When we started the business, the goal was to show that Swedish BWR technology has a future. Today we have built a strong platform, generated significant international interest and laid the foundation for the next step. I would like to warmly thank all the employees, investors, partners and advisers who have made this journey possible. Now is the right time to let the next generation of leaders take over and lead the company into a new phase of expansion," says Lars Engsund, Chairman of the Board of Nordic Baseload Power.
The Norwegian capital also shows that interest in Nordic collaboration on advanced energy technology is growing quickly.
"We see the Nordic region as a natural common market for development, investment and expertise. This investment clearly confirms that others share our vision," says Lars Engsund.
The coming development phase will focus on completing a site-independent BWR solution: a technology that can offer greater flexibility, a high level of safety and stronger competitiveness for the energy systems of the future.
In today's geopolitical situation, control over strategic energy technology has become a matter of both national security and industrial competitiveness. NNG therefore considers it very important that Swedish BWR technology continues to be developed under Swedish ownership, while being built in close cooperation with our Nordic neighbours. This way, Sweden can keep control over strategic technology and at the same time help build a stronger and more resilient Nordic region.
With new capital, new leadership and a clear strategic direction, NNG is now entering the most expansive phase since the company was formed.
